Meet Pooja Tolani
Pooja Tolani, born in Meghalaya, a state in the north-east of India, completed her education in Mumbai, India. In 2000 she received her Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from St. Xavier’s college, the topmost college for humanities studies in India. In 2001 she specialized in Marketing and Advertising with a diploma from SNDT University, Mumbai.
In 2001, she became an Art of Living instructor. Founded in 1981 by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, The Art of Living Foundation is a not-for-profit, educational and humanitarian NGO (Non-Governmental Organization) engaged in stress-management and service initiatives. With a mission to “create a violence-free and stress-free society”, the organization operates globally in 152 countries and has touched the lives of 370 million people.
An uncertain transition from the laid back campus of St. Xavier’s to the challenging terrains of the North Eastern states of India to teach people the power of the breath, isn’t the best career step for a 19-year old. But in 2002 Pooja rejoiced in it and found the callings of her life. This 34-year old Indian-born Art of Living instructor, over the years has made a habit of venturing into challenging places to teach people the precious art of living. Be it dealing with misguided youth among the tribes of Nagaland or helping drug dependents and specially challenged children in India or prison inmates in Bulgaria, she has thrived amidst adversities.
Her journey of service has taken Pooja to places such as Germany and Bulgaria. From the villages of India to the sky scrapers of North America, in a short span she has seen it all.
Apart from teaching Art of Living courses, she has also been a part of the organizing teams of various conferences like the International Women’s conference, World Youth Peace Summit and the largest of them all, the Art of Living’s Silver Jubilee celebrations in the year 2006 which saw a gathering of 2.5 million people. She was also one of the lead organizers for his Holiness Sri Sri Ravi Shankar’s 5 day visit to Calgary in April 2013.
